This morning I discovered an amazing website, through TED (I highly recommend subscribing to their newsletter) which is about finding the next Einstein, in Africa.
The thinking behind the initiative is that only Africa can solve Africa's problems, and Africa needs to nuture the talent capable of designing audacious solutions. The website extends their cause beyond geographic borders and enrolls the world in their dream. It's all about encouraging study and excellence in maths and sciences and the videos of students on it are very engaging. Their stories are personal and real. Right there you have two great ingredients for great content and it is the stories that bring the cause alive.
In my mind it's an example of three great things:
1. First, it embodies a principle I hold dear: If you want things to change, begin by looking at yourself.
2. Thanks to this wonderful world of technology, they are not alone on their mission. Anyone can support them, and you can't help but get a warm fuzzy feeling as you discover more about it.
3. The power of storytelling. I know I've been banging on about that for years but good stories go a long way to making a website stand out from the crowd.
